Your student email address
With an active Uni Graz account, you automatically get a student email address.
Check your email account regularly, as all study-related information from the university and your teachers will be sent to this email address.
Accessing your email account
With the uniACCOUNT, students automatically receive an e-mail address of the University of Graz. This e-mail address is intended to ensure that e-mails relevant to studies are actually delivered - regardless of quota restrictions or filter settings of various providers.
At a glance
- Mailbox on the Exchange server with 1 GB
- Use of Exchange standard components (calendar, contacts ...)
- Webmail (access via Webaccess)
- SPAM filter as well as virus scan of incoming and outgoing mails
- Phishing detection
- Forward - possibility of forwarding
- Use of alias addresses
- Access options: MAPI, IMAP, OWA, Exchange Active Sync
- support by the service desk
similar services: uniSHARE, uniCHAT
E-mail access
Webaccess is certainly the easiest way to receive and send e-mails using a browser. This access works on our PC workstations as well as on your device at home.
On the smartphone/tablet
While on the road, students can receive and send e-mails with their smartphone or tablet, whether Android, Apple iPhone, Blackberry, Symbian (Nokia) or Windows Mobile. The prerequisite for this is that the smartphone supports Exchange ActiveSync. In addition to access via an Exchange ActiveSync client, IMAP is also supported.
On the work device
Students can access email from their work device using an email client (e.g. Outlook or Thunderbird).
With "Outlook Anywhere" students can access the university mailbox directly with Outlook - without a VPN connection. The data is sent via a secure connection between client and server and is thus protected in the same way as with VPN.
Students can also retrieve e-mails outside the university network using the IMAP protocol. However, sending messages with the university mail server is only possible within the university network. Outside the university you have to use the outgoing mail server of the local provider.
Forwarding
Forwarding of e-mails is possible via the business card in UNIGRAZonline. However, it is important to make sure that the e-mail address is entered correctly. The university does not provide support for forwarded e-mails.
Webmail I like because ...
-
... I don't have to install a program for it.
"I can open it anywhere and I don't have to worry about any email settings". -
... I get all my university e-mails secured there.
"I want to separate my private mails from my study mails. Webmail is perfect". -
... I can easily recognize phishing e-mails here.
"I see the link addresses and the senders, I can roughly judge if it's a phishing or a real email. You can't do that everywhere."
WIFI access on campus
WIFI (eduroam)
The University of Graz is a participant in the eduroam project. The term "eduroam" stands for "education roaming". This allows to use the internet via WIFI at all eduroam locations (e.g. other universities) with the access data of the home university.
- Available for students in WIFI
- Web: http, https
- ssh
- ftp, ftps
- E-mail: pop3, pop3s, imap, imaps, smtp
- printing
- virtual software
- common VPN protocols
- IT support portal
Installation tools
Can be installed via the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, for Windows the link is here.
Eduroam security
We strongly recommend installing eduroam with one of the installation tools to ensure that only a connection to legitimate eduroam networks is possible.
In case of a manual configuration, only establish the WLAN connection to eduroam if one of the listed authentication servers is displayed when connecting for the first time:
Server name: Fingerprint of the certificate

available free of charge in public places (German only)
public hotspots and more can be found here
I like eduroam because ...
-
… I can easily access the Internet at university.
"I can connect to the Internet anywhere at the university for free - and it works very well and quickly." -
… I can also connect at other universities.
"eduroam is really great. When I am at the TU (where I also study), I can connect to the Internet with the Uni Graz data in the same way. And also at many other universities" -
… because this works even in some places in Graz.
"So since I know where eduroam works everywhere in Graz, I also use it sometimes. It's practical and costs nothing."
UNIGRAZcard
Your student ID card at Uni Graz.
You should get your UNIGRAZcard (student ID card) as soon as possible - you may need it for important functions like printing / scanning or copying on campus. Further information how to get and activate your student card can be found on this page.
Print, scan and copy
Quickly print, scan or copy something - multifunction devices (A3, black and white or color, double-sided, batch feeder) are available for this purpose throughout the campus.
Requirements
- at least 1 day active student account in UNIGRAZonline (or copy card)
- valid UNIGRAZCard for authentication or the youni APP
At a glance
- valid from 1 day of active student account in UNIGRAZonline (or with copy card)
- authentication via a valid UNIGRAZCard or the youni APP
- printing via the public PC workstations
- Use of the printer infrastructure for copies, scans and printing from USB sticks
- Printing via WLAN (private devices)
- Charge of printing credits (see also printing costs)
- The ÖH-Servicecenter issues copy cards for scanning and copying, processes complaints and blocks cards in case of loss.
Top up credit
Students have two options for topping up their print account:
- cash at the ÖH-Servicecenter (Harrachgasse 23), minimum amount € 10,-.
- and online at https://guthaben.uni-graz.at, minimum amount € 20,-.
At the credit server you can easily top up and check your personal credit by credit card, PayPal or online transfer. Registration is easy with your Uni-Graz account, you do not need your own access data.
Misprints/credits
As a general rule, money will only be deducted for pages actually printed. Therefore, if the print job is not output or is canceled, no costs will be incurred.
If there is a misprint, please take the faulty printouts to the following offices for presentation:
- Infopoint RESOWI, Universitätsstraße 15, Bauteil GE (in case of misprints in the RESOWI and Wall training centers)
- ÖH-Servicecenter, Schubertstraße 6a, ground floor (in case of misprints at other public devices)
Usage
Printing at public workstations
Near our public PC workstations, a multifunction device for printing, scanning and copying is usually also within reach. Generally, all public access devices with card readers are available to students during building hours. Print jobs can be accessed campus-wide from all public devices regardless of workstation location.
Attention. After activating the uniACCOUNT, printing is only possible on the following day!
Printing via WLAN
Students can print via WLAN with their own notebook after setting up the printer queues on the public multifunctional devices at the University of Graz.
Via USB stick
Students can also copy, scan and print PDFs directly from USB sticks with their UNIGRAZCard. In addition to the UNIGRAZCard there is the possibility to buy a copy card at the ÖH-Servicecenter. With this card you cannot print from the computer, but printing from USB, scanning and copying are possible. Scans are also subject to a fee.
I like the central printers because
- ... it doesn't matter where I print out and I only need "youni" to pick up the printouts.
"If one printer is busy, I simply take another one. I don't have to know where I'm going to pick up the printouts when I'm printing. And the printers are really well equipped. The fact that I only need youni to pick up the prints is really convenient."
- ... the jobs stay stored for a few hours.
"I often pick up my printouts after the lecture. That's great that it works all day long without me having to restart the print job. "
- ... because I can send PDFs directly with my tablet.
"If I want to quickly print a PDF, I just send it via Mobile Printing from my tablet, sometimes from my smartphone."
