If your stay as exchange student is scheduled for 2 semesters, you have to apply for a residence permit. You can find the instructions how and where to apply and which documents you need after selecting the situation that applies to you below.

What does visafree entry mean?

If your country is mentioned on the following list, you are allowed to enter Austria visafree and can apply for the residence permit in Graz after the arrival. If not, you must apply for the residence permit in the country of your residence. If you already live in the EU and have a residence permit from an EU country, you may also be allowed to enter visafree - please contact the Austrian embassy in the country of your residence to find out.
