Exchange students:

You must be present for the mandatory orientation days

If you want to take an intensive German course, you have to arrive in early February/early September the latest

If you arrive prior to the start of your accommodation agreement, don't forget to arrange additional accommodation by yourself (e.g. hotel, youth hostel, etc.)

International students (full degree) are advised to arrive:
- in late August or early September for the winter semester,
- or in late January or early February for the summer semester.
There are no mandatory orientation or welcome events for full degree students from abroad.
Visa & residence permit
Who needs a visa / residence permit?
Only non-EU/EEA nationals need a visa or residence permit for their stay in Austria.
Non-EU/EEA nationals have to apply for either a visa or a residence permit, depending on the duration of their stay.
EU/EEA nationals do not need a visa nor residence permit.
If you have dual citizenship that includes an EU/EEA nationality, you have to use the EU/EEA nationality for your registration.
Finding accommodation
Graz is the second largest city in Austria with around 290,000 inhabitants. Approximately 60,000 students of universities and universities of applied sciences call Graz their home.
Health Care
The medical system in Austria is well developed. Various private and public providers offer suitable coverage, depending on the reason and duration of your stay.
German and foreign language classes
With "treffpunkt sprachen", the University of Graz has its own language center for students, staff and external participants.
About the campus
The university campus is centrally located in the heart of Graz. You can use the online campus map to navigate to the lecture rooms and service facilities. Or you can download the campus map for exchange students.

Erasmus Student Network & Buddy Programme
In the buddy programme organized, exchange students are supported by local students. We recommend that exchange students register for the buddy programme.
